As we look forward to a post-COVID world, Alberta Wrestling is exploring options to expand competitive opportunities for all age groups. In order to increase opportunity, we must consider extending the season, as we only have so many weekends in the current schedule. One consideration is mirroring what is already done in much of the country and creating a “separate” elementary (tyke, novice, kids) season, beginning in late February and finishing in early/mid May. While there may be challenges, this shift could increase the overall number of tournaments for those age groups, without going weeks or months between matches. It would also aid in the availability and development of coaches and officials, with older athletes completing their competitive season in March.
We invite all coaches, parents, officials and athletes to complete the following survey to help us assess the feasibility of this approach. Please carefully consider all the advantages and disadvantages listed after choosing your role and share any others that come to mind.
